The Saudi government launched Tajeer, an official car rental platform that reflects the Kingdom's success in employing technical innovations and transformation towards an electronic market to meet the needs of users.

The Tajeer rental system includes more than 300,000 taxis and private cars.

Minister of Transport and head of the Public Transport Authority board Saleh al-Jasser sponsored on Sunday the launch of a program aimed at developing the car rental sector and Tajeer.

He said the authority was keen on developing the transport sector and all of its activities because they are the backbone of the economy.

Car rental is one of the vital sectors, as it caters to the needs of a large segment of the community and intersects with the tourism, entertainment and business sectors, he added.

He stressed the need to integrate all of its operations, beginning with legislation and engineering procedures and ending with technologies and capabilities.

The minister added that technology, its solutions, and tools are the first choice to ensure that legislation are implemented in light of the accelerated digital transformation and the transition of traditional markets to the digital.

Chairman of the PTA Rumaih al-Rumaih explained that the authority is working to develop the transportation sector, making it a priority due to its direct impact on the traffic and tourism. He indicated that the number of vehicles operating in the car rental sector exceeds 300,000.

He pointed that the localization of the sector was successful and had a significant positive impact in raising the number of Saudi employees, which now stands at over 22,000.
