Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said oil shipments through the Red Sea’s Bab al-Mandeb strait, one of the world’s most important tanker routes, would resume on Saturday.
The state-run news agency SPA quoted Falih as saying that the decision was made after the Arab Coalition had completed all necessary security procedures to guarantee the safety of ships passing through the shipping lane and south of the Red Sea.
Saudi Aramco confirmed that shipping had resumed effective immediately.
"The company is careful to continue monitoring and evaluating the current situation in coordination with the relevant bodies and take all necessary procedures to ensure safety," Aramco said in a statement.
Saudi Arabia said on July 25 it was suspending oil shipments through the strait after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi insurgents attacked two ships in the waterway, one of which sustained minimal damage.
Falih said at the time that Saudi Arabia is temporarily halting all oil shipments through the strait until the situation becomes clearer and the maritime transit through Bab al-Mandeb is safe.
