Saudi Arabia registered on Saturday over 1,000 coronavirus cases, announced Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali.
He told a press briefing that 740 of the new cases - nearly two thirds - were diagnosed through active testing. Five new fatalities were reported, taking the tally to 92.
The latest figures are the highest daily tally of the novel disease after new testing procedures, including active testing, were introduced.
Abdelali said 191 cases were detected at quarantine housing dedicated for people returning to the Kingdom from abroad and the remaining cases contracted the virus from other patients.
He stressed that early detection was better than late detection when the patient’s condition may have deteriorated. Dedicated teams are continuing their active testing at foreign worker housing areas.
Saturday’s numbers bring Saudi Arabia’s total coronavirus cases to 8,274, including 6,853 active ones and 87 in critical condition. A total of 280 patients have recovered, raising the count to 1,329.
