Saudi Arabia Rejects Violation of Historic, Legal Status of Jerusalem

Chairman of the ٍSaudi Shura Council Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh (SPA)

Saudi Arabia renewed its rejection of prejudice to the historic and legal status of Jerusalem and affirmed its firm stance on regional and international issues, especially the Palestinian cause, which is at the forefront of its concerns.

The chairman of the Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh, said that the Kingdom’s support for the cause is based on the constants and pillars that aim to achieve just and comprehensive peace in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He made his remarks in a speech on Sunday before the 29th Conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union in Amman, Jordan.

Al-Sheikh stressed Saudi Arabia’s categorical rejection of any violation of the historic and legal status of the city of Jerusalem.

He underlined the Riyadh’s firm rejection of any resolution calling for the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli occupation forces, as confirmed by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz during his latest meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

“We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Palestinian people who are steadfast in confronting the Israeli occupation, and we salute our prisoners, who are unjustly detained in Israeli jail... We also call on the international community to stand with us for their release,” he said.

On the Yemeni file, al-Sheikh reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for the legitimacy in Yemen against the Iran-backed Houthi militias.

He also emphasized efforts to reach a political solution and the commitment to the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue and Security Council resolution 2216.
