Saudi Arabia registered on Wednesday 493 new coronavirus cases, raising its tally to 5,862.

Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali revealed that the majority of the new cases were detected at overcrowded foreign worker housing areas.

Six patients have died from the virus, taking the total to 79. The majority of the victims had already suffered from chronic health problems.

Abdelali said 42 patients have recovered from the disease, raising the count to 931.

Moreover, he stated that 20 percent of the diagnosed cases require regular treatment, while 5 to 10 percent suffer from severe symptoms that could lead to death. The remaining are manageable cases that do not require hospitalization.

The education ministry said on Wednesday that more than 3,400 shuttered schools in the Kingdom would be used to rehouse migrant workers from cramped accommodation.
