Saudi government agencies announced a set of programs that will contribute to expanding the local labor market for women, within recent initiatives launched on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8.
The Ministry of Commerce, through the Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants, launched a program to empower women in the accounting profession and enhance their capabilities to contribute to economic development as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The new program seeks to develop major segments that include training, qualification, leadership and employment.
In this regard, Minister of Commerce, Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi emphasized that the accounting profession was the backbone of any establishment and a key element to raise confidence in the national economy and business system.
He stated that the Organization’s launch of the program would enhance the developmental role of women and allow them to advance the profession, thus contributing to the realization of the goals of Vision 2030.
Secretary-General of the Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants (SOCPA), Dr. Ahmed Al-Maghamis pointed to the successes achieved by women in the accounting profession, stressing the importance of their role in promoting economic growth.
He noted that the program was one of the SOCPA’s strategic initiatives to increase the number of professionals and enable the economic sectors to obtain appropriate accounting and auditing services.
“Through this program, we seek to develop women’s leadership skills, locally and internationally, with their participation in the board and committees of the SOCPA,” he said.
SOCPA is also working to establish a center to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), Maghamis remarked.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Haitham bin Abdul Rahman Al-Ohali, launched on Monday the Women’s Empowerment Forum in the Communications and Information Technology Sector.
The virtual forum, which was attended by 20 female experts in the technical field, aims to build a digital system that embraces, develops and attracts minds and skills in support of the digital transformation process. It also seeks to increase the quality of employment opportunities for women, with the aim to raise national productivity and develop local technical content, in addition to contributing to building a competitive technology sector and achieve economic sustainability.
The program works to promote the role of women through raising awareness, enhancing digital skills, innovation and entrepreneurship, empowering women in leadership positions and increasing women’s employment in the sector.
