The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), in cooperation with King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, has inaugurated a joint research center, during the 2nd Global AI Summit that was held in Riyadh between September 13 and 15.

“The university (King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals) is proud of its partnership with SDAIA through the new center for research and development in data and AI,” said the President of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals Mohammed Al-Saqqaf.

Al-Saqqaf noted that launching the center is a step that will give the university a role in developing the economy of the Kingdom to have a decent rank in the world as a competitor rather than just a participant in the new global digital economy.

The joint research center seeks to improve all branches of AI to instill the status of the Kingdom as a global pioneer among data-based economies through conducting and supporting research and innovation in this field according to national priorities to realize the targets of Saudi Vision 2030.

Chief Executive Officer of National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI), the innovative arm at SDAIA, Majid Mohammed Al-Tuwaijri said that the joint center will be a starting point towards a successful cooperation with the university to provide innovative solutions in various fields via benefiting from AI in the new data age.

The center seeks to provide adequate infrastructure for AI research, attract, support and train talents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the field, and develop means of using AI in all sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, such as the energy, industrial, educational, and health sectors.
