Saudi Arabia has issued a new regulation for the Energy Efficiency Center in the country for the sake of rationalizing the production and consumption of energy in a way that guarantees the rise of efficiency and the unity of efforts in this field, whether among government or non-government bodies.
According to information acquired by Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, the new regulation replaces the former regulation of the Energy Efficiency Center, which was issued by cabinet resolution number 16 for the year 2011.
The new regulation includes that the center enjoys corporate body as well as administrative and financial independence, in addition to connecting in organization with the minister of energy, industry and mineral resources.
According to the fourth article of the new regulation, the center adopts a number of mechanisms and initiatives that include putting national programs for the energy efficiency and determining relevant policies, plans and goals as well as following up the implementation required steps to achieve them with relevant bodies.
The Saudi center works on enhancing conducting studies and researches in the fields related to energy efficiency and encouraging the investment and funding in sectors that seek energy efficiency plus urging holding training programs in this segment.
The fifth article stipulates that the center should have a board of directors headed by the minister of energy, industry and mineral resources or any representative of him, and members of the board of directors should be the representative of the ministers of energy, environment, investment, municipal affairs, housing, media and economy.
According to the new regulation, the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center board of directors should convene a minimum of four times in the year based on the invitation of the president or his deputy. Also, the board should convene whenever necessary.
