Saudi authorities have resumed a national plan to give the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to all age groups, the Health Ministry announced Sunday.
“The second dose of the coronavirus vaccine is now available for all age groups targeted for vaccination, by booking an appointment through the Sehaty application,” the Ministry said.
While confirming that 50 percent of citizens and residents in the Kingdom have received the first dose, it stressed the importance of taking the second dose for a better immunity against mutations.
So far, the Kingdom has administered more than 19.5 million doses of the vaccine through over 587 vaccination centers in all regions.
Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali said the Kingdom has made progress in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
He said it was possible to switch between the different types of vaccines that have been approved by the Kingdom. So those seeking vaccination can now shift to the Moderna vaccine when taking the second dose.
On Friday, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) announced its approval for the import and use of the Moderna vaccine against the coronavirus.
Saudi Arabia announced Sunday that in the past 24 hours the Kingdom recorded 1,112 new COVID-19 cases, 13 deaths, and 1,189 recoveries.
The total number of cases in the Kingdom rose to 501,195, including 10,805 active cases that are still receiving medical care. The number of people who have recovered has reached 482,414, while the death toll has increased to 7,976.
