The Saudi government hailed on Tuesday the Arab League-European Union summit that was held in Sharm el-Sheikh, hoping that it will bolster the historic ties between the two sides.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet session that was held in the al-Yamamah palace in Riyadh.
He briefed the ministers on the meetings he held at Sharm el-Sheikh with Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the leaders of Cyprus, Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Belgium.
He underlined after his talks with Sisi the importance of the establishment of the Group of Arab and African Coastal States of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The ministers highlighted King Salman’s speech at the Arab League-EU summit during which he hailed the ties between the two sides.
He also stressed that resolving the Palestinian conflict was key to achieving stability in the Middle East and world, specifically Europe.
He also warned against Iran’s support for the Houthi militias in Yemen and other armed groups, urging a united international stand to counter its behavior.
Moreover, King Salman reiterated Saudi Arabia’s call for the implementation of political solutions to resolve crises in some Arab countries. He emphasized the need to maintain joint efforts to combat terrorism and money laundering.
The summit was held on Sunday and Monday.
King Salman then briefed the ministers on his telephone call last week with Russian President Vladimir Putin during which they discussed the oil market.
The ministers then addressed the Asian tour of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, that saw him visit each of Pakistan, India and China last week.
They reviewed his discussions with the leaders of these countries, which underlined the strength of the strategic ties that bind them to Saudi Arabia.
