Saudi Arabia Funds River Development Project in Sri Lanka

Saudi Ambassador to the Republic of Sri Lanka, Abdul Nasser bin Hussain Al-Harthi, has participated in the opening ceremony of the development of Kalu Ganga River Development Project in central Sri Lanka, which was funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Fund for Development, the Saudi Press Agency

President Maithripala Sirisena of the Republic of Sri Lanka patronized the opening ceremony.

The project aims to create a strategic reserve for drinking water and irrigation and meet the growing demand for it through the construction of three dams on Kalu Ganga River in central Sri Lanka to irrigate 975 hectares of agricultural land.

According to SPA, the Saudi Fund for Development has contributed to financing 11 development projects in Sri Lanka through 14 loans with a total value of SR 1405.27 million of which eight projects have been completed in the sectors of water, energy, health, roads and education.
