The Saudi interior ministry said on Tuesday it executed 37 people in connection with terrorism crimes, state media reported.

"The death penalty was implemented... on a number of culprits for adopting extremist terrorist ideologies and forming terrorist cells to corrupt and disrupt security as well as spread chaos and provoke sectarian strife," the Saudi Press Agency said.

The 37 were all Saudi nationals.

The ministry said the individuals had been found guilty according to the law and ordered executed by the Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh.

The individuals were found guilty of attacking security installations with explosives, killing a number of security officers and cooperating with enemy organizations against the interests of the country, it added.
