
The Saudi Shura Council on Tuesday encouraged foreign investors to access the Kingdom’s transport and logistics sector.
In its 45th regular session of the first year of the eighth session, the Shura Council discussed the annual report of the General Authority for Zakat and Income for the Hijri fiscal year.
Member Osama Al-Khiari called on the Authority to study increasing its revenues from companies that own social media applications and setting incentives to open corporate headquarters in the Kingdom.
Shura Council member Saad Al-Omari called on the Ministry of Transport to coordinate with the relevant authorities to expedite the entry of foreign investment in the sector of transport services and logistical support. He stressed that this strategy would reduce reliance on government support, provide a strong and positive competitive environment and attract international expertise and advanced technologies.
Meanwhile, member Turki Al-Enezi urged the Ministry of Transport to resort to the private sector to study the possibility of localizing emerging technologies used in road maintenance and qualifying human cadres to operate them.
Another member Saad Al-Otaibi stressed the need for strict control over the quality of materials used in road and bridge construction to ensure the residents’ safety and security.
Shura member Haifa Al-Shammari called for conducting several research and field studies and directing research and development projects towards the localization of modern technologies and innovation.
