The Saudi Health Ministry denied on Monday that it had registered infections of the new variant of the coronavirus.

A spokesman for the ministry tweeted: “Reports that infections of the new variant are false. It has not yet been detected in the Kingdom.”

He urged people to contact the ministry for any inquiry, obtain information from official sources and avoid rumors.

Health Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah had stated on Monday that the new coronavirus variant is not worse than COVID-19, assuring that vaccines currently in use are effective against it.

He stressed that the Health Ministry is closely monitoring developments related to the new strain.
