Saudi Arabia Declares Thursday First Day of Eid al-Fitr

The crescent moon signaling the advent of the month of Shawwal was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, making Thursday the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

Several Arab and Islamic countries attempted to sight the moon on Tuesday night to determine the beginning of Eid.

The Saudi Supreme Court had called on Muslims throughout the Kingdom to sight the Shawwal moon on Tuesday night.

Wednesday will therefore, mark the final day of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
