Saudi Arabia's Food and Drug Authority has approved the COVID-19 vaccine made by AstraZeneca, state news agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

The SFDA gave clearance for the administration of the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab based on data provided by the manufacturers, but will test the vaccine once they receive the shipments, SPA said.

Saudi Arabia began inoculating people in the Kingdom with a COVID-19 vaccine in December, becoming the first Arab country to roll out the Pfizer-BioNTech jab.

The Food and Drug Authority registered the vaccine in early December.
