Saudi Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali. Asharq Al-Awsat

Saudi Arabia has signed contracts with companies developing coronavirus vaccines and will soon announce a registration system for vaccinations, Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali said Sunday.

The Kingdom will also be one of the first countries to obtain vaccinations, and measures are in place to ensure that they will be safe, effective and approved by the relevant bodies, he told a press conference.

He also said that the Kingdom was witnessing a decline in COVID-19 cases.

Saudi Arabia recorded 187 new cases on Sunday, bringing the total in the Kingdom to 358,713, he stated.

This includes 3,869 active cases receiving medical care.

Of these, there are 600 critical cases, while the health condition of the rest is stable, said Abdelali.

As many as 317 patients have recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 348,879, he added.

The Health Ministry also recorded 11 new deaths, putting the total number of fatalities at 5,965.
