Saudi Arabia and Spain to Sign a Number of MoUs, Agreements

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrives in Spain (SPA)

Saudi Ambassador to Spain Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Farhan underlined deep and strong relations between Riyadh and Madrid, noting that the visit of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman would culminate in the signing of a number of agreements and MoUs in several areas.

The ambassador said that Prince Mohammed’s visit to Spain would begin with a meeting with the King of Spain, Felipe VI, who will throw a lunch banquet in his honor at the Royal Palace in Madrid, in the presence of the Spanish state leaders. Prince Salman will also hold official talks with the Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and members of the Spanish Parliament.

In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, Spanish Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Alvaro Iranzo Gutierrez, said the Crown Prince’s visit would mark the beginning of a new phase of joint strategic action in various fields, and crystallize common positions and visions on pressing issues at the regional and international levels.

“We hope that the trip will be more than a successful visit but a solid bridge to realize the aspirations of the two countries and translate their common desire… to enhance cooperation in various fields,” Gutierrez said, in a phone conversation with Asharq Al-Awsat.

He noted that agreements and MoUs would be signed to promote cooperation in the public and private sectors, expressing his country’s keenness to participate in the implementation of Saudi Vision 2030.

The ambassador said the volume of trade exchange between the two countries amounted to 5.5 billion euros in 2016, noting that Saudi Arabia was the main trading partner of his country in the Middle East.

He added that Spain was seeking to increase bilateral trade and joint investment in the sectors of infrastructure and rail industry.
