Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the US Prince Khalid bin Salman has slammed Tehran’s “menacing role” in Yemen and its threat to global trade.

“There should be no more doubt about the Iranian regime’s menacing role in Yemen and disregard for human suffering and the environment,” the diplomat said on his Twitter account on Friday.

“Its belligerent use of proxy warfare threatens global trade and is a continuation of their outlawed and globally condemned behavior since 1979,” he said.

In another tweet, the ambassador said General Nasser Shabani from Iran's Revolutionary Guards admitted his regime was behind the July 25 attack on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.

Shabani had said: “We told the Yemenis to hit Saudi tankers, and they did it, Lebanese Hezbollah and Yemeni Ansar Allah [Houthis] are our followers.”

The post was later deleted, Prince Khalid added.
