Saudi Aid Helps over 21,000 Ailed Yemenis, Wounded Army Veterans

Wounded Yemenis receive medical care afforded by Saudi KSRelief

The medical air link established between Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the UAE is little heard of yet is increasingly helping Yemen’s sick and wounded receive treatment. Yemeni army troops wounded in battles to free the country from an Iran-backed bloody coup are among the key benefactors of the humanitarian initiative.

Arab Coalition Spokesperson Col. Turki Al Maliki, speaking at a presser two days ago, reiterated Saudi Arabia’s role in Yemen away from the battleground to restore the country’s public institutions into power. He mentioned the Kingdom’s notable medical support of those maimed by war, with statistics by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre standing to prove that contribution.

KSRelief provides health services to all Yemeni people in coordination with the Yemeni Higher Relief Committee represented by the Yemeni Ministry of Health and Population, and local and international partners.

KSRelief has provided treatment for more than 21,000 injured Yemenis, both inside and outside Yemen.

A total of 6,452 Yemenis received treatment in private sector hospitals in Yemen, while 1,000 received treatment in Yemeni medical centers specializing in eye injuries.

In addition, 12,795 cases were transferred to Saudi Arabia, 534 to Jordan, 280 to Sudan and one to India. The injured Yemenis expressed appreciation to KSRelief for its efforts to treat them.

Even more, the Saudi Project for Landmines Clearance in Yemen (MASAM), launched by KSRelief, has managed to clear 22,952 landmines planted by the Houthi militia.

In the last week of November, members of the project managed to dismantle some 1,462 landmines planted in schools and residential areas.

KSRelief also recently launched several labor-intensive projects in the Al Shihr district of Hadramawt.

The aim of the projects is to create employment opportunities and improve infrastructure in targeted governorates. The launching ceremony was attended by a number of local officials, sheikhs and residents from the areas of implementation.

The project will directly benefit 160 unemployed people and indirectly benefit 800 others.

The Improving Livelihoods Project includes three major areas: labor-intensive projects, projects to train female breadwinners and empower youth, and projects in the fish and agriculture sector. The project will directly benefit 3,750 people, and 18,750 indirectly.
