Sauce Gardner makes NFL history after incredible rookie season with New York Jets

Ahmad 'Sauce' Gardner has become first rookie cornerback in 41 years to be named to the first-team All-Pro roster, which was announced by the NFL on Friday evening.

Voted for by sports journalists from major organisations across the United States, the All-Pro teams feature the best players in each position.

Gardner, the fourth overall pick by the New York Jets, was named on all 50 ballots by voters, receiving 43 first-place votes and landing on the first time. He becomes the first rookie at the position to do so since, Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, who made the All-Pro team in his rookie season in 1981.

Gardner told the AP: "That's a big deal to me. It was one of my goals before training camp. It's something I pray for. I worked so hard for it. It's a true blessing for sure."

And since the announcement was made, he posted on his Twitter : "First Rookie CB to get 1st Team All-Pro for the first time in 41 years… Thank you God. None of this would be possible without you and the great group of guys on our defense; especially the D-LINE. This for Detroit. Product of Detroit King Highschool."

Jets teammate Quinnen Williams was also named to the first-team All-Pro roster, the first time he has made the team in his fourth season in the league after being drafted with the third overall selection in the 2019 draft.

Elsewhere on the team, Patrick Mahomes won the spot as first-team All-Pro quarterback - winning 49 of the 50 votes - a clear indication that he is also about to win his second MVP award, after winning it in 2018.
