Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed full participants in Wednesday’s practice

The Jets got very good news as they returned to the practice field Wednesday to begin preparations for the New York Giants in Week 8. Both of their starting cornerbacks look to be in good shape to return from their respective concussions.

Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed, both of whom missed the Week 6 win against the Philadelphia Eagles — Reed also missed Week 5 against the Denver Broncos — were full participants in Wednesday’s practice. Head coach Robert Saleh said Monday both were still in the concussion protocol but one of the keys to come out of the protocol involves practice, so Wednesday was always going to be the earliest we would get a clearer view of their status.

An offer for Jets fans

Having both return to practice fully this early in the week bodes very well for their chances of playing in Week 8. Brandin Echols, who was dealing with a hamstring injury, was also a full participant Wednesday, so the cornerback room looks like it will be full again Sunday.

The Jets had also activated Jarrick Bernard-Converse this week. New York looks about as healthy as they can be in the secondary, the best news they can get coming out of the bye week and with the momentum they built with their two-game winning streak, including over the Eagles.
