Satyam Bhoyar, Aniket Pande battle out tough time for Vidarbha lead

NAGPUR: The script of a breathtaking day for Vidarbha was weaved under pressure in the first and the last sessions of Day-3 on Tuesday. It was the hard work of centurion opener Satyam Bhoyar in the first session that kept Vidarbha afloat. And when all key batters were back, wicketkeeper Aniket Pande compiled a tenacious half-century in company of tailenders to secure the lead against Odisha at Civil Lines ground.

In reply to Odisha's 375, Vidarbha were 379 for 9 at stumps thanks to brilliant batting from Satyam (110; 203b, 15x4, 1x6) and No.7 Aniket (55 n.o; 164b, 5x4). Their knocks secured three important points for Vidarbha. The conditions were so difficult in the morning that despite having two well-set and overnight batters — Satyam & Yash Rathod (64) — in the middle, Vidarbha managed just 27 runs and lost two wickets in 17 overs.

Satyam's ability of playing in ‘V' helped him see off the difficult first hour under slightly foggy conditions. After the hard work, the right-hander, who saw three main batters getting out in front of him, completed his century. However, he got out before lunch and Aniket replaced him.

Special knock from Aniket

Aniket had a stomach upset after the end of the first day. He was still on a recovery path when took the guard on Tuesday. The wicketkeeper battled his health and tough last session. Vidarbha were 118 runs adrift with the last three wickets in hand. With Pravid Rokde (3 off 47b), Aniket scored 25 runs for 8th wicket.

Later, Aniket and Praful Hinge (35 off 31b) scored 45 in 59 balls for the ninth wicket. Vidarbha needed 26 runs and last man Aditya Thakare (11 n.o off 44b) was new to the crease. Aniket showed great faith in Aditya and they together knocked off Odisha's total to put their side ahead.

BRIEF SCORES: Odisha 375 vs Vidarbha (Overnight 140-1) 379 for 9 in 125 overs (Satyam Bhoyar 110, Yash Rathod 64, Aniket Pande 55 n.o; Krishna Palai 4-116)
