GOAL OF THE DAY
When the ball dropped to Leeds midfielder Alex Mowatt not a lot was on, but he spun and thrashed a glorious strike into the top corner to seal a 3-0 win against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield. It wasn’t even a fluke: he scored one just as good against Cardiff in midweek.
CLANGER OF THE DAY
The Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes let N’Golo Kanté’s tame effort slip through his fingers and could only watch as the ball bobbled on into the net. Gomes also conceded a penalty, and Watford lost 2-1.
STAT OF THE DAY
Hereford FC, created earlier this year from the ashes of Hereford United, lost three and drew one of their first six games of the season. Since then they have won 16 on the spin (their last 11 by an aggregate score of 40-1). Rocester, beaten 4-0 in the Midland Premier League on Saturday and 2-0 in the FA Vase last weekend, are their last two victims, but having now played them home, away and in a cup they can at least look forward to a Hereford-free future.
PUT IN THEIR PLACE
Several teams marked Remembrance Day weekend with more than a minute’s silence – at Upton Park a marching band sent West Ham’s players scattering during their pre-match warm-up, while Watford’s had to run for cover when a helicopter landed on the Leicester pitch.
MAGIC OF THE DAY
Eastleigh beat a Football League side for the first time, knocking Crewe out of the FA Cup. Ben Strevens’ 75th-minute penalty sent all 293 visiting fans giddy as the National League team sealed their place in round two.
PROTEST OF THE DAY
Furious Charlton fans called on the club’s owner, Roland Duchâtelet, to go before their side (12 games without a win) took on Sheffield Wednesday (11 unbeaten). Inevitable result: 3-1 to the Addicks.
