MAN OF THE DAY
Ashley Barnes – scored his first ever top-flight goal and brought Burnley some respite. They were the last team in the top four tiers to register a win this season.
TEAM OF THE DAY
Chester were saved from the sixth tier last season only after Hereford were thrown out of the Conference. They soared in a purer way this time with a fine 2-1 FA Cup win at League Two Southend.
YOUTHS OF THE DAY
Junior side Bo’ness United drew last week’s Scottish Cup tie with League Two Elgin City 4-4 – then went one better in Saturday’s replay. Their 5-4 win put them in the fourth round for the first time.
ANTICLIMAX OF THE DAY
Weston-super-Mare’s big FA Cup day at home to Doncaster – called off 21 minutes before kick-off due to rain, making it a swift 400-mile round trip for away fans.
CAMEO OF THE DAY
Edin Dzeko. Came on as a sub at QPR, touched the ball once, then went off three minutes later after pulling a muscle. Always remember to warm up properly, kids.
MOST CONSISTENT
Sky’s Chris Kamara. Missed his cue twice and called Jeff Stelling “Carly”. On the plus side, he found space for two poppies.
BIGGEST LET DOWN
It was the perfect day for a horse called Gerrard’s Slip to steal the headlines in the 12.40 at Doncaster. It came last.
BEST SOCKS
Ross Clarke of Linfield lost both his boots in a clash with a Dungannon defender. Undaunted, he tiptoed on in his socks and set up Ivan Sproule to round off a fine 4-0 win.
