Saturday Sundae: Bolasie and the Beast

Paul-Sturrock-Yeovil-Town
Paul Sturrock, so hot right now, rocked up to his first game as Yeovil boss in a striking waistcoat. Sadly, Garry Thompson’s late goal for Notts County sent him strutting his stuff straight into League Two. Photograph: Pa Wire/PA

MAN OF THE DAY

Yannick Bolasie, doing his bit for quiz-setters everywhere: scoring three times in 11 minutes and nailing Palace’s first ever Premier League hat-trick.

Goal of the day

Move over Charlie Adam. Down at the New Lawn, Jon Parkin scored from just inside the halfway line as Forest Green Rovers beat his former team Macclesfield 3-1 to leapfrog them into fourth in the Conference. And the goalkeeper didn’t get a touch, aesthetics fans.

STAT OF THE DAY

Admit it, you’ve been unable to sleep knowing Cristiano Ronaldo had not scored from a free-kick since 29 April last year. It was 57th time lucky against Eibar, though.

CONSOLATION of the day

Optimistic T-shirts with the legend “Steve Bruce’s Black and Amber Army” were laid out for all Hull fans at St Mary’s. Useful for wiping tears away, as it turned out.

REACTION OF THE DAY

After defeat to Accrington last week, Carlisle manager Keith Curle was fuming: “I might get 50 supporters to come down, have an open forum and they can have half an hour with the players.” The threat worked: they beat Dagenham 1-0.
