Saturday's recap: Astros 3, White Sox 0

May 31--The summary

The Astros' Evan Gattis and Chris Carter hit back-to-back home runs off White Sox reliever Dan Jennings in the eighth inning Saturday to cement a 3-0 victory over the Sox at Minute Maid Park. The Sox were shut out for the fourth time this season, and the second time on their current trip.

At the plate

Dallas Keuchel struck out 11 Sox, Adam LaRoche three times, in his second career shutout.

On the mound

Jose Quintana allowed one run on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in 61/3 innings. The Astros scored their lone run against him on Jonathan Villar's sacrifice fly to left field in the fourth.

On the bases

Sox third baseman Gordon Beckham and pinch-runner J.B. Shuck were doubled off first base in the fifth and eighth innings, respectively.

Key number

1.76 -- Keuchel's ERA this season in 11 starts.

The quote

"When I see (Keuchel's performance), I tried to continue to get zeros all of the innings and wait for the hitters to come back in the game, with one or two runs. But today we had a hard game, and we'll try tomorrow to get the win." -- Quintana

The quote II

"He keeps the ball down. He's a guy you have to get three, four, five hits to score two runs with him because he's not going to give up extra-base hits and he's not going to give up home runs. That's just what he does." -- Sox center fielder Adam Eaton, who struck out twice, on Keuchel

Up next

At Astros, 1:10 p.m. Sunday, WGN-9.
