On the offensive: Notre Dame will benefit from the Sun Devils missing lineman Jaxon Hood and may need to score often to win a potential shootout. Everett Golson has cleaned up his act lately, turning the ball over three times in the last two games.
Getting defensive: Taylor Kelly (foot) has been back under center the last three games, but the Sun Devils haven't had their explosive offense at full throttle. Arizona State is averaging 23 points over its last three games compared to 41.2 over its last five.
The talk: If Notre Dame wins, how big a leap will it make in the College Football Playoff rankings? This is essentially an elimination game for the four-team playoff.
The number: 5. With a victory, Brian Kelly would become the first Notre Dame coach to win eight games in each of his first five seasons.
