Saturday's independence rally cancelled due to weather - but march to go ahead

A planned independence rally in Glasgow for this Saturday has been cancelled due to the weather, organisers have confirmed.

All Under One Banner (AUOB) - a group set up "to raise the profile of the need of an independent Scotland" in 2014 - have been calling for independence supporters to meet on the streets this weekend, with organisers expecting as many as 100,000 people to attend.

The group announced last night the outdoor rally has been cancelled, due health and safety concerns over expected high winds.

However, it has been confirmed the march through Glasgow city centre will still go ahead.

AUOB published on Facebook last night: "Due to the high winds expected on Saturday we've today decided to cancel the outdoor rally as this poses a H&S hazard.

"So as to ensure the line-up is enabled we've now arranged a press conference at a venue after the march.

"The march is 100% on with max attendance required."

The group later went on to confirm: "The march is one element of the demo and it is 100% still on.

"The rally (outdoor) is the other element of the demo - we have cancelled this due to high winds".

The event was organised in the wake of the December general election, which saw the SNP win winning 48 of 59 available seats in Scotland.

Road closures are in place as a result, which you can read about in full .
