Saturday roster moves: Seahawks sign QB J.T. Barrett, LB Juwon Young

The Seahawks players have an off day Saturday but the front office has been busy. Seattle has announced a number of roster moves, including signing a backup quarterback – J.T. Barrett.

Barrett, a 2018 undrafted free agent out of Ohio State, spent last season on and off the Saints’ practice squad before he was waived Aug. 1. Barrett will add depth behind starter Russell Wilson alongside Paxton Lynch while Geno Smith is recovering from the cyst removal in his knee.

Following Thursday’s preseason debut against the Broncos, coach Pete Carroll had said Smith could be out up to 10 days and the team was already “working” on other options.

Seattle also added a linebacker to the squad on Saturday, signing Juwon Young, an undrafted rookie out of Marshall. Young had participated in the Seahawks’ rookie minicamp in May.

Linebacker Chris Worley and safety Marwin Evans were waived to make room for Barrett and Young on Seattle’s 90-man roster.

The Seahawks return to practice Sunday morning but the session is closed to the public.
