Saturday Night Live stages star-studded spoof 'It's a Wonderful Trump'

Saturday Night Live ended its 2018 run with a holiday-themed show, including a sketch that imagined a world in which Donald Trump had never been elected.

The sketch, titled "It's a Wonderful Trump", served as the show's cold opening, and begins with Alec Baldwin's Trump being visited by his guardian angel Clarence, played by Kenan Thompson.

"Sometimes I wish I had never been president," a frustrated Trump says, before Clarence shows him what the world would look like if Hillary Clinton had won the election. "In this reality, all she had to do to win is visit Wisconsin once," Clarence says.

"Everyone looks so different," Trump says of the alternate reality. "What are those things on their faces?" Clarence replies: "Those are called smiles."

Trump runs into many figures from his life to see how they're faring without the stress of his presidency. Melania, played by Cecily Strong, has secured a divorce, resulting in the loss of her accent.

"They said being around you all the time was ruining my language skills," she says. Trump responds: "Well, you’re still smocking hot."

The sketch sees a string of celebrity cameos including Ben Stiller as former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, Matt Damon as U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and Robert De Niro as special counsel Robert Mueller.

Damon served as host on the holiday special, with Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson appearing as musical guests.
