Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt needed hospital treatment after being bitten by his cat

Welsh chef Matt Tebbutt thanked medical staff at a Welsh hospital after he twice needed treatment this week for a cat bite.

The presenter showed his patched up finger to Saturday Kitchen viewers as he praised the medical team who had looked after him, but he didn't explain why he had to go twice.

After looking back over the past week at the start of the show, the chef, who lives in Monmouthshire, had some news of his own.

"On a personal note from me, can I please thank everyone at Nevill Hall hospital in Abergavenny who helped me out not once, but twice, in what was the old A&E," he told viewers on Saturday (July 3).

"I went in with a gammy finger. It is a long story, and not particularly attractive, but they are absolute angels. I couldn't thank them enough. You have been absolutely brilliant. Thank God we all have people like you on our team, so thanks very much."

He then revealed a little bit more to guest Phil Tufnell about what happened, saying: "They were brilliant. The next time I see my cat, we are going to have words. It is seeing everything off at the moment, including me."

Matt's first appearance on Saturday Kitchen was in October, 2009, and he often presented the show when former host James Martin was away. Following James' departure in 2016, Matt became the new lead presenter.

In an interview with the Express today he revealed that he faced a backlash from Martin's fans when he got the job and the acceptance of him in the role had been "gradual".

He admitted: ""It was a slow process and people like to have their favourites and people don't generally like change. So yeah, it was a gradual process."
