Satish Kaushik's funeral: Actor's cremation to be held at 5pm today

The last rite rituals and cremation of Bollywood veteran actor Satish Kaushik will take place on Thursday evening, at 5 pm, read an official statement.

The actor-filmmaker, whose comic timing in classics such as 'Mr India' and 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro' is still remembered, died of a heart attack while he was on his way to a Gurugram hospital in the early hours of Thursday. He was 66.

Anupam Kher told PTI, "He told his driver to take him to the hospital... he suffered a heart attack around 1 am on the way."

A post-mortem was conducted early this afternoon at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital in Delhi, a police official said, adding that the doctors ruled out any foul play as the cause of death.

A senior police official said that they had received information regarding Kaushik's death from Fortis hospital in Gurugram. "Future course of action will be decided after the autopsy report," said the official.

Meanwhile, a police team was also spotted questioning people who assembled at the Bijwasan-based farmhouse where Kaushik was with his friends and relatives on Wednesday.

ETimes broke the news that the actor's mortal remains will be flown to Mumbai from Delhi via air ambulance at 3 pm. Some close friends and family members of Satish rushed to Delhi as soon as the news broke and made quick arrangements for the autopsy to be conducted and the mortal remains to be carried home as soon as possible.

His friends and family are expected to land in Mumbai by 4 pm to participate in the funeral and offer their last respects.

Satish Kaushik is survived by his wife Shashi and 11-year-old daughter Vanshika.

Celebrities including Anupam Kher, Javed Akhtar and others were spotted arriving at the actor's Mumbai residence early this afternoon to offer their condolences to the grieving family.
