Satellite images show scale of 'double weather warning' storm set to batter Merseyside

Satellite images have revealed the scale of the storm heading for Merseyside this weekend.

The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for the region over the course of 48 hours.

They said that the "low pressure system " that will strike us at the end of the week has now started forming in the Atlantic, and will soon be on its way towards the UK.

Satellite images released by the forecasters have revealed the expected path of the storm, and show the scale of what will strike us, reports North Wales Live.

Wind will pick up on Saturday (Met Office)

On Friday, a band of heavy rain followed by heavy showers or thunderstorms has the potential to bring disruption to Merseyside.

There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings and a small chance fast flowing or deep floodwater could cause danger to life.

Where flooding does occur, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus service.

Spray and flooding on Friday could also lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closure and some communities may become cut off by flooded roads.

Strong winds are also expected to cause some disruption, particularly during Saturday daytime.

Weather over North wales and the UK on Friday and Saturday (Met Office)

Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

It also expected that there will be delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges, with some bus and train services affected, and some journeys taking longer.

Fallen trees are also possible, along with short term loss of power and other services.

Conditions should begin to calm on Sunday.
