PUNE: A pall of gloom descended on Visapur and Basarge Budruk villages in Satara and Kolhapur districts after the news of their two bravehearts, Subedar Vijayrao Sarjerao Shinde and Naik Prashant Shivaji Jadhav, succumbing to injuries suffered in the Friday morning accident in Ladakh reached there.
Shinde and Jadhav were among the seven Indian Army personnel, who died after their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into the Shoyok river.
The two soldiers belonged to families with strong military background and were living their childhood dream of being a part of the forces. They were with the 22nd Battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry (MLI).
Satara district sainik welfare officer Commander Vijay Patil said, “The mortal re mains of Subedar Vijayrao Sarjerao S hinde were expected to r each his native Visapur village (in Khatav tehsil) by late Saturday night and a funeral with apt military honours will be held on Sunday afternoon. ”
On the other hand, the mortal remains of Naik Prashant Jadhav were expected to arrive either on Saturday night or Sunday morning at the Belgavi airport from where it will be taken to Basarge (in Gadhinglaz tehsil) by an Army vehicle for the funeral rites with military honours.
Shinde’s father had served with the sam e MLI battalion of the Indian Army and Shinde joined the unit in 1998. His elder brother, Sanjay, is also a serving soldier posted in the North-East sector. Shinde is survived by his wife, Priyanka, twin daughters, besides, mother and two brothers.
