SAS: Who Dares Wins 2021 champion Connor Smyth pays tribute to family

Connor Smyth has paid tribute to his family for their support after being crowned champion of SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The Newtownards man said “it’s hard to put into words” how he feels after such a special night for him and his family.

The 30-year-old, who is an Irish dancer and has performed on West End and Broadway, has shown in the last few weeks that he's able to endure in some of the harshest environments.

In a post on Instagram, Connor Smyth first paid tribute to his 89-year-old grandfather as “an inspiration to us all” for instilling great values and work ethic in their family.

He continued by saying thanks to his mum, “who sacrifices herself for her children.” Connor noted that she “believed in me long before I ever did and convinced me to pursue my passion through the tough times.”

Paying tribute to his sister, Lynsey, who trained him up before he headed off for the great challenge of SAS: Who Dares Wins, he said she “pushed me to my limit in my preparation for this monumental challenge!”

At the end of the post, Connor paid tribute to his fellow champion, Kieran Lang, saying that he will “never forget sharing that special moment with you at the top of that mountain!”

He also had a message for his fellow recruits on the show, saying “you all done [sic] yourselves proud. The journey wouldn’t have been the same without you, only we understand what we went through together!”

Season 6 of the Channel 4 series saw 21 men and women leave the comfort of their homes and head into the wilds of Scotland, to be put through what the DS (Directing Staff) of the show believed to be their toughest course in its six-year history.
