About 10,000 sardines will be schooling in an underwater show called "sardine galaxy," which is scheduled to start Saturday at Minamichita Beach Land, an aquarium in Mihama, Aichi Prefecture.

The sardines, caught in the Seto Inland Sea, will be guided by fishing lights and food during the show. Visitors will be able to see their sudden movements as the fish react to rays and sharks swimming in the same tank.

The theme, inspired by such astronomical phenomena as comets, is "galaxy."

"I hope visitors will enjoy [seeing] the beautiful schools of fish," an aquarist said. "And I hope it becomes a wonderful winter memory."

The show is set to continue through Feb. 27, 2022.
