Sarah Payne's brother haunted by his final words to sister, 8, before her murder

Sarah Payne’s brother says he is haunted by his final words to his little sister moments before she was snatched by paedophile Roy Whiting .

Luke Payne was just 11 years old when his sibling was abducted and murdered near Kingston Gorse, West Sussex, on July 1, 2000.

Sarah, 8, told him she wanted to go home after suffering a tumble as they played hide-and-seek near their grandparents' home.

"I’m not going to lie — I got angry and said 'OK fine'," he said in an interview with Susannah Reid for the Mail on Sunday.

"I said: 'F*** off, go home'. Those were the last words I ever said to her: 'F*** off and go home.'"

Luke also revealed that he still has nightmares about killer Roy Whiting who is currently serving a 40-year sentence for the girl's murder.

Whiting, now 60, will be eligible for parole when he is 82.

He said: "When I actually think about him and what he’s done to my sister, he makes me into a monster… thinking about him makes me into a terrible person inside."

Mother-of-four Sara told the Mail that Sarah's death , brothers Luke and Lee, and sister Charlotte.

The children were just seconds away from Sarah when she was taken by Whiting into the back of his white van.

Sara said: "Lee had seen that man. Can you imagine how haunted he's been his entire life, by that man smiling at him with his sister in the back of the van?"

Sarah hopes speaking out will help them move forward and exorcise their their 'personal ghosts'.

Sara turned her grief into indignation at the law and called for parents to have access to information about convicted paedophiles.

In 2009, Sarah's Law was introduced across the UK and has been used nearly a thousand times since.
