Sarah Paulson's whimsical bathroom color taps into an unexpected trend for 2024 – the elegant shade is equal parts bold and refined

Despite their small size, powder rooms can pack a huge punch design-wise. It is precisely because of their small size that they allow homeowners to explore and decorate in more inventive ways than they might try in a larger space. The cozy pink shade of Sarah Paulson's powder room perfectly embodies this phenomenon.

The actress's bathroom is outfitted in reflective, dusty pink tiles that cover all of the walls and the ceiling. Paulson's space, dreamed up by LA-based design studio Nickey Kehoe, is at once fun and elegant. The iconic pink tiles are complemented with silver hardware and contrasted with pretty blue bathroom accessories.

Design experts love Paulson's colorful bathroom idea. 'Sometimes, pink can feel very artificial or maybe a little too child-like in an interior design context, but the pink tiles in Sarah Paulson's bathroom design have the opposite effect—the color feels effortlessly natural, like the pink you'd see on seashells, and it looks timeless and very intentional and sophisticated,' says Kathy Kuo, acclaimed NYC interior designer..'

Nina Lichtenstein, Westchester-based interior designer adds: 'In Sarah Paulson’s powder room, the use of pink is both bold and refined. Pink zellige tiles adorn the walls and ceiling, enveloping the bathroom and shower area in a cohesive, sophisticated glow. These handcrafted tiles, with their subtle variations and glossy finish, add depth and texture, creating a dynamic visual experience that changes with the light'

The space has been designed to maximize natural bathroom light. Lichtenstein tells Homes & Gardens: 'The glass shower doors are a practical and aesthetic choice, allowing natural light to flood the space, presumably from a window in the shower. This influx of natural light highlights the delicate pink hues, making the room feel larger and more airy.'

Paulson's pink bathroom has also been accessorized to perfection. Kuo states, 'The subtle pops of mint green and light teal in the rug, wastebasket, and wall cabinet create a contrast that feels equal parts whimsical and summer-ready.'

Lichtenstein adds: 'Striking cylindrical sconces flank the mirror, their gentle light sure to reflect off the zellige tiles and enhance the room's rosy ambiance. This thoughtful placement not only highlights the beautiful tile pattern but also provides functional illumination for daily routines. The muted rug with pink undertones atop a light wood floor adds warmth and comfort underfoot, while maintaining the room's cohesive color palette.'

Furthermore, Paulson's space isn't the only spot where we will see this look. Experts predict it's an interior design trend that will only grow. Lichtenstein states: 'This shade of pink, with its ability to blend luxury with tranquility, has the potential to become an increasingly popular color trend in bathroom design. It offers a fresh alternative to more traditional neutral tones, providing a unique and modern twist. The versatility of pink, from soft blush to deep rose, allows for endless creative possibilities, making it a favorite among designers seeking to infuse spaces with personality and charm.'
