A Showtime boss has suggested that several politicians and people of note's attempts to get out in front of their hoax interviews with Sacha Baron Cohen's Who is America? characters may have been for nothing as they didn't all make the cut.
Four episodes have aired at the time of time writing and three remain, with no sign of Sarah Palin yet, who previously admitted she had been fooled by Baron Cohen.
“All I can say about that is that there are several people who have thrown themselves in front of buses that may not be heading their way,” Showtime president of programming Gary Levine told reporters about the status of the Palin interview at a Television Critics' Association panel (via Deadline).
He added that Baron Cohen "is always refining" the show and "has a very high bar". Presumably, he conducted way more interviews than will actually feature in Who is America?, some being more successful than others and therefore prioritised/deprioritised.
Posting on Facebook in early July, Palin claimed she was the latest in “a long list of American public personalities who have fallen victim to the evil, exploitative, sick ‘humor’ of the British ‘comedian’."
Who is America? airs Sunday nights on Showtime in the US and follows on Monday nights in the UK through Channel 4.
