Sarah Millican first guest in new series of Channel 4's Extraordinary Escapes with Sandi Toksvig

North East fans of comedy and travel are in for a treat in the new year, as Sarah Millican is the first guest in a new series which explores the UK's most unique holiday properties.

The much loved Geordie comedian will travel around Devon with Sandi Toksvig, exploring the UK's wildest, most remote and beautifully designed holiday digs.

The six-part series sees Sandi joined by the nation's funniest female comedians for a staycation style trip, with others in the new series including Sara Pascoe and Jenny Eclair.

There's also a festive special to come before that, featuring actress Fay Ripley, Dragon Deborah Meaden, and Maggie Aderin-Pocock from the Sky at Night as they go in search of Orcas and the Northern Lights in Scandinavia.

Sandi Toksvig said: "Filming the first series of Extraordinary Escapes was the most heavenly experience so I'm delighted I get to spend yet more time in the company of six fabulous females against a backdrop of some of the country's most beautiful bolt holes.

"I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to slowly wander through and admire the UK's most tranquil landscapes - all in the name of work."

Despite two series of Extraordinary Escapes having been filmed, Sandi hasn't yet travelled to the North East - but maybe series 3 will bring her up this way to explore breathtaking places to stay in Northumberland such as the Sky Den at Kielder, the treehouse at Woodland Chase, or the Hadrian's Wall Yurt.

The new series of Extraordinary Escapes with Sandi Toksvig will air on Channel 4 in early 2022. The Christmas special will air on Tuesday December 28 at 8pm.
