Sarah McInerney pays tribute to RTE listeners as she completes Today stint

Sarah McInerney has completed her stint on RTE's popular current affairs radio show Today on Radio 1.

The popular anchor signed off on her final show today, thanking her audience for their time.

She said: "Well, that's all we have time for this week and, indeed, that's all I have time for in this chair.

"As many of you will have heard, Claire Byrne is going to be taking over from next Monday.

"Claire is a wonderful broadcaster, a wonderful journalist and a woman I have long admired for her talent and her integrity. She certainly doesn't need it from me, but all the same, I want to wish her the very best of luck in her new role."

Sarah, who took over the role temporarily, following the departure of Sean O'Rourke on his retirement, added that she hoped to be back on the airwaves soon.

The broadcaster thanked the RTE team for assisting her and "consistently delivering brilliant guests and topics."

Addressing her listeners, she added: "And I'd also like to thank you guys, the listeners, for your texts and your tweets and your comments and your questions.

"And for sharing your stories during the last few months, because it has been so difficult for everyone.

"I hope to be back to talk to you all again soon."
