Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding joked she wanted 'FFS' on her headstone after death

Sarah Harding joked she would like to have the acronym “FFS” engraved on her grave as she wrote about her thoughts on death in the months before she passed away.

The Girls Aloud icon sadly passed away on Sunday at the age of 39 following a brave battle with terminal cancer.

The star had shared her diagnosis and details of her battle with fans via social media and in an autobiography in the year following her shock announcement in August last year that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer which had spread to other parts of her body.

With the devastating news that she would not survive the disease, Sarah shared her thoughts on her death and her funeral in her autobiography Hear Me Out, which was released in March this year.

Contemplating her death, Sarah wrote: “I keep thinking about funerals at the moment.

"It might sound morbid, but it’s hard not to at this stage — cemeteries, plots, burials, what kind of send-off I’d like and how it would all go.

“I’ve also thought about an epitaph for my grave. I’m thinking ‘FFS’ might be a good one.

"It’s probably been my most used phrase throughout this, with one crappy event following another. ‘For f***’s sake!’ ”

Sarah shared updates on her battle against cancer – undergoing a mastectomy and chemotherapy in order to fight the illness.

The disease however spread to her lungs and brain, and despite treatment helping reduce her tumours earlier this year, the star’s family announced on Sunday that she had passed away.

In a heartbreaking update shared by her mother, Marie, wrote: It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away.

“Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day.

“She slipped away peacefully this morning. I’d like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past year. It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved.

“I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease – she was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead.”

Girls Aloud bandmates Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts were among those paying tribute to the late singer.

Nadine wrote online: “I am absolutely devastated!! I can’t think of words that could possibly express how I feel about this girl & what she means to me!! I know so many of you will be feeling this way. For now I’m sending so much love to you!!!”

And Nicola wrote: “I’m absolutely devastated and I can’t accept that this day has come. My heart is aching and all day everything we went through together has raced round my mind.

“Electric girl, you made us. You gave it everything and still with a smile. A white butterfly flew past my window this morning before I knew, it must have been you.”
