Sarah Harding fans in tears as Royal Variety pay tribute to Girls Aloud singer

Fans of Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding were in tears tonight as the Royal Variety Show paid tribute to the performers who have sadly lost their lives this year.

Sarah tragically lost her battle with cancer in September, aged just 39.

The ITV show put together a montage of 2021's late stars and when a clip of Sarah performing at the event in 2012 was shown - fans couldn't hold back the tears.

One viewer took to Twitter saying: "I will never get over the death of Sarah Harding."

Another wrote: "Seeing Sarah in the #RoyalVarietyPerformance’s memorial section just then really hit hard. I still can’t believe she’s actually gone."

While a third penned: "When they show all the people who have died it’s always sad, but most have lived a long, full, privileged life and died in old age.

"It’s the younger people like Sarah Harding that is so sad."

The montage was sadly full of famous faces, including comedian Sean Lock, who lost his battle with cancer in August.

One viewer tweeted: "Two names on that list taken before their time. Sean lock and Sarah Harding."

Also included in the tribute were EastEnders actress Barbara Windsor, Sherlock's Una Stubbs, Peaky Blinders actress Helen McCrory, legendary composer Stephen Sondheim and Give Us a Clue's Lionel Blair.

One viewer wrote: "Awh how many amazing people have we lost this year. So touching and emotional that tribute Sparkling heart."

Sarah performed at the 100th Royal Variety Show with her bandmates Cheryl, Nadine Coyle Kimberly Walsh and Nicola Roberts.

Girls Aloud entertained the Queen and Prince Phillip as well as the excited audience in a star-studded show, which is considered a Christmas tradition for many Brits.

The star's fans were heartbroken when the singer's mum Marie announced that Sarah had died.

She wrote on her daughter's Instagram page.

“It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away.

"Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day.

"It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved.

" I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease – she was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead.”
