Sarah Greene says Normal People's success has lifted her spirits in lockdown

Sarah Greene said the success of Normal People has lifted her spirits – admitting she has been feeling low in lockdown.

The Cork actress, 35, has been holed up in Belfast, where she had been filming Frank Of Ireland with Gleeson brothers Brian and Domhnall.

Speaking to RTE 2fm’s Jenny Greene, The Dublin Murders’ actress who plays lead character Connell’s mum Lorraine, said she’s thankful for the distraction of the series.

Sarah said she was experiencing “many ups and downs” since the Covid-19 emergency began.

She revealed: “I’ve had some really down weeks – but I’m kind of on a high from the positivity the show is getting and all the love for the show. It has rubbed off on me because I’ve floated around for the last week, which is lovely.”

She said it was “pretty gutting” that filming was forced to shut on the last week of the Gleeson brothers’ new project due to the Covid-19 emergency.

The actress, who lives in London, said Belfast was more appealing during lockdown explaining: “So we just decided to stay here instead of going back.

“We’re close to the beach here and there’s a country park across the road from us. It’s been quite peaceful.

“I miss my family terribly, I miss my mam and dad and my sister and my nephew.

“They’re are all in Cork. Hopefully if some of these restrictions are lifted I’ll get to run down the road in the car and meet them.”
