Sarah Beeny bravely shaves her hair off amid breast cancer battle

Sarah Beeny has shaved her hair off after losing the majority of it within 24 hours as she undergoes treatment for cancer.

The TV presenter and property expert, 50, confirmed last month that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and has since undergone at least one round of chemotherapy.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Beeny shared two images - one of her wearing a blonde wig and another a close-up of her hand holding a clump of her own hair.

The Reading-born star was open with her 188k followers as she admitted losing her hair had been “much harder than I expected it to be”.

Alongside the image of her hand, she penned: “Sort of much harder that I expected it to be when it happened - in 24 hrs most hair fell out and I’ve shaved the rest off - onward and upward! X”

It was in contrast to the other picture where she is beaming while posing with her pet dog in what she describes as “a very good wig”.

“A handful of wild flower seeds and a bit of patience!!!! (One of us might be wearing a very good wig….!!) xx” she elaborated.

Her followers were quick to offer their support and flocked to the comments section.

“Sending love … hugs … and prayers from an avid fan,” wrote one.

Adding: “I’m sure you look just as beautiful as you did before and you’ll grow it back once your treatment is complete.”

“So tough. Sending you massive hugs,” wrote another, while a third penned: “You’ve got this Sarah”.

Beeny - who is best known for her work on UK property programmes, including Help! My House Is Falling Down and Sarah Beeny’s New Life In The Country - first confirmed her diagnosis in an interview with The Telegraph.

Speaking to the newspaper, she revealed she began a course of chemotherapy to treat the cancer last week and will have surgery and undergo radiotherapy in the New Year.

Despite her diagnosis, Beeny has said she will continue to work and is currently focused on a new Channel 4 series and book she has planned for later in the year.

Beeny lost her mother to breast cancer when she was 10 years old and said that her own diagnosis was not unexpected.

She has four children – Rafferty, Laurie, Billy, and Charlie – and has been married to her husband, artist Graham Swift, since 2003.
