Saracens will still play matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium despite relegation

Saracens’ deal to stage matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the next five years remains in place, even though the club will be relegated from the Premiership at the end of the season.

In November, Saracens were fined more than £5million and docked 35 points after it was confirmed they had breached the Premiership’s salary cap in each of the past three seasons.

On Saturday, the club were handed the further punishment of being relegated to the Championship after it was revealed they were tracking to be over this season’s £7million salary cap too. It means the club will play next season in the second tier of English rugby and it had raised question marks over their stadium deal with Spurs.

Saracens reached an agreement with Tottenham in April to stage their annual ‘Big Game’ at the new stadium, which can accommodate more than 62,000 spectators.

Saracens have used both Wembley and West Ham’s London Stadium in the past, but this year will take on Harlequins on March 28 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Saracens’ relegation had sparked fears about the club’s deal with Tottenham, although Standard Sport understands the agreement remains in place.
