Saracens to rest key players for Exeter clash as they look to keep squad fresh for double attempt

With a home Premiership semi-final in the bag and a Champions Cup final to prepare for, Saracens are set to give their frontline players a rest for Saturday’s visit of table-toppers Exeter.

The 31-14 victory at Wasps on Saturday and Gloucester’s 27-20 loss to Worcester on Sunday means Sarries will host a semi-final at Allianz Park on May 25. It will almost certainly be against third-placed Gloucester.

Against Wasps, Saracens withdrew from the matchday 23 Mako Vunipola, Mike Rhodes and Richard Wigglesworth as a precaution, while Jackson Wray and captain Brad Barritt were also rested.

The team to face Exeter will see wholesale changes as their key players take a breather ahead of the Champions Cup final against Leinster in Newcastle on May 11.

Saracens on Monday announced the signing of scrum-half Alex Day, 26, from Cornish Pirates.

Meanwhile, Sarries fly-half Zoe Harrison says the club’s second Tyrrells Premier XVs title was better than the first after they swept Harlequins aside on Saturday, winning 33-17.

“I’m ecstatic, it’s even better than the first time,” said Harrison.
