Saracens set for injury boost with Alex Goode targeting February return

Saracens full-back Alex Goode is set to return from injury next month.

The 31-year-old, named European Player of the Year last season, has been out of action since October after undergoing surgery on a pectoral tear he sustained during the Premiership defeat by Northampton Saints.

Goode is now close to full fitness and is targeting Saracens’ game at Sale Sharks on February 15 as his comeback appearance.

The news is a timely boost for Sarries, who otherwise risked being light on options at full-back over the coming months.

Elliot Daly and Liam Williams will be away on Six Nations duty with England and Wales respectively, while the latter is also closing in on returning to Scarlets before the end of the season.

Williams, out of action since the World Cup, has already agreed to join Scarlets in the summer, but he looks likely to leave Saracens early as they try to prove they are compliant with the Premiership’s £7million salary cap.

In addition, Saracens are due to be without Max Malins for three months after the 23-year-old, who can play at full-back or fly-half, suffered a recurrence of a broken foot injury that disrupted his start to the season.
