Saracens agree Tim Swinson deal as former Scotland lock reverses retirement decision

Saracens have agreed a one-year deal with former Scotland second row Tim Swinson after coaxing him out of retirement.

The 33-year-old announced he was hanging up his boots in May, saying on Instagram it was “time to move on to the next adventure”.

Swinson, who has 38 Scotland caps, was part of the Glasgow Warriors squad that won the Pro12 title in 2015 and has experience of playing in England from his time at Newcastle Falcons.

He is now set to return south of the border after agreeing a one-year deal with Saracens.

The club have been looking to bolster their squad for life in the Championship after being relegated from the Premiership this year.

Saracens are expected to have a young collection of second rows next year - such as the Kpoku brothers and Callum Hunter-Hill - and it is hoped Swinson will add experience.

The club are also hoping England international Maro Itoje stays, although his future has not been confirmed yet and, even if he remains, the second row will play a limited number of Championship games.
